The short treks — Ghorepani, Mardi Himal, Helambu — require reasonable base fitness equivalent to walking 4–6 hours with some uphill. For EBC and longer routes, cardiovascular training in the months before matters genuinely. Your guide gives a frank fitness assessment when you discuss dates. The goal is to make sure no one is underprepared for the route they've chosen.

A teahouse is a family-run mountain lodge. Expect a simple room — wooden walls, a thin mattress, yak-wool blankets — shared bathrooms, and a dining room where you eat dal bhat (unlimited refills, rice and lentils) and drink tea. Above about 3,000m, don't expect hot showers or reliable electricity. Below that, standards vary considerably. Most clients describe their teahouse nights as the best part of the trip. The altitude changes the experience.

Every itinerary has acclimatisation days built in specifically to reduce this risk. Our guides are trained in altitude sickness recognition. If you develop genuine AMS symptoms above 3,500m, the protocol is immediate descent — the guides will not wait. Travel insurance covering helicopter rescue is mandatory (we ask for confirmation before departure). Most cases resolve with descent. Serious complications are rare on well-planned itineraries.

No. Prices shown are land costs only — accommodation on trail, guide, permits, teahouse meals. Flights between London and Kathmandu are best booked separately. We can advise on timing and routing if helpful. Some clients book flights independently; others ask us to quote a full package including flights — either approach works.

Yes — we take solo travellers frequently. You'll have a private guide, which often improves the experience. Note that some restricted-area routes (Manaslu, Upper Mustang, Nar-Phu Valley) require a minimum of two trekkers under Nepal permit regulations. If you're solo and interested in one of those routes, we can either match you with another compatible traveller or suggest an equally strong alternative.

A 25% deposit confirms your dates and is non-refundable — this covers permit pre-applications and local planning costs. If you add the +£150 booking insurance option at the time of deposit, it becomes fully refundable with reasonable notice. Nischal will confirm exact terms when you discuss your booking. They are straightforward and the same for all treks.

Yes, every route. On the Khumbu routes, Sherpa guides who grew up in the region. On Annapurna, local guides who have walked the circuit since childhood. Not contractors from a Kathmandu agency — people with genuine, specific knowledge of the terrain, the weather patterns, and the teahouses. This is the thing Dunkery Yatra does not compromise on.

Age matters less than fitness. Clients in their 60s have completed EBC with us; 16-year-olds have done Ghorepani Poon Hill with parents. We've also had fit 40-year-olds who struggled at altitude.
